Sleep Study

Back in January we went to the out of hours Doctor with T overnight as she was struggling to breath in her sleep, her stomach was working hard and she was wheezing from the out of hours doctor we were taken by ambulance to hospital and there given a bed for the night to keep an eye on her and see what was going on. During the routine observations a nurse looked worried and they hooked her up to a oxygen saturation monitor all night it kept buzzing and beeping as her oxygen level dropped to the low 70′s and 60′s% over and over again.
T’s sleep has never been great but from what the dr’s explained it seemed that there could be a reason for it her tonsils were huge and causing an obstruction to her breathing as well as other possibilities which we will face as and when the results come back. To justify the removal of tonsils there needs to be a sleep study conducted that shows that there is a real need. She snores… I mean old man snores from a little thing and struggles so we were booked in for a sleep study.
This week we went in overnight for the sleep study. T and I waited for a nurse to come and hook her up – she would need 3 ECG pads, 2 straps to monitor thorax and abdomen body movements plus a saturation monitor and if we could get it on a nasal sensor as well.
When she was hooked up we then had trouble getting her to sleep 3 hours past her bedtime was not a good idea with a different environment as well. Eventually she fell asleep and was monitored and filmed all night. From 3 to 4 she attacked the wires but we managed to keep them on.
Now we just play a waiting game to find out the results – we have an appointment on the 20th March and if we don’t hear before then it’s good as it’s not too serious… but for now we wait and I don’t sleep as I keep checking on her and how she is doing.
