Day 16 Project 365

Hospital Stays
T struggled in her sleep breathing on Tuesday Night so I called the out of hours doctors who asked for her to come in. Driving through the snow and ice we arrived at the out of hours surgery and were seen by a dr straight away. The doctor gave her a nebuliser and decided that as she was still struggling and wheezy it was best to send her to hospital so an ambulance was called and we headed off for the ward.
That night a nurse taking her routine observations spotted that she was desaturating over night with her levels falling dangerously low and she was hooked up to a monitor. Throughout the night beeps and buzzes happened and lead to ENT coming around as well as the paediatric team visiting and monitoring her whilst asleep.
It seems that she has a sleep problem – sleep apnoea which explains why she has never slept for longer than 3 hours in a row – luckily it is a self adjusted so she changes position and wakes up when it becomes really bad. She’s now in for a sleep study and they think it likely to remove her tonsils will solve the problem.

Oh poor you! We had a similar thing with our son but it turned out to be a bed bug allergy. He is much better at sleeping now but I hope that you get some treatment that will help as those sleep deprived nights are a killer.

How scary for you. When I was little I had breathing problems and finally after a few emergency dashes to the hospital and time spent in an oxygen tent they decided to remove my tonsils and adenoids. According to my mum (I can’t remember much of that time!) all the breathing problems stopped and she said it was like I was a new child.
xx
I hope removing her tonsils sorts it all out

Wow, removing the tonsils can solve the sleep apnoea! Who’d have thought it. thanks goodness the doctors know so much these days and I hope your problem is resolved quickly
My daughter use to stop breathing, day or night, awake or asleep didnt matter, and it stopped when she had her tonsils and adenoids out and grommets in her ears at 3 yr 9 months. It can be very scary, but at least they are aware of it now.

Oh gosh what a traumatic week for you all, I hope that her breathing (the initial problem) is easier now? Sleep apnoea is really common I think, one of the teachers in school has it and I had to share with her on a school residential trip; she snored something chronic!
Thanks for linking up
